Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for individuals who require frequent therapy sessions to maintain recovery. Scheduling varies by location, but morning, afternoon and evening IOP group times are available at most sites to accommodate clients’ scheduling needs.
Outpatient treatment is available for individuals who are transitioning out of IOP after successfully completing the program, or individuals who have been in recovery for a significant period of time and are working on long-term skills. In addition, select locations may offer outpatient groups focused on specific topics, themes or skills.
Clients usually attend outpatient sessions once or twice a week for an hour to an hour and a half per session.
To allow for individualized support and a safe, comfortable environment in which to share, IOP groups have a maximum of 12 participants. Support persons are also encouraged to be involved in treatment and educated on ways to help their loved one succeed in treatment.
IOP treatment primarily involves group therapy sessions, with individual and family counseling sessions scheduled as needed. Our IOP programming utilizes a variety of therapies, including:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Motivational interviewing
- Group processing
- Skill-building exercises
Our treatment team develops a care plan tailored to the needs of each individual client, with referrals for psychiatric medication services if necessary.
IOP may be a suitable option for individuals who have graduated from residential or partial hospitalization program (PHP), or those who need a flexible schedule because they have other responsibilities to attend to while in treatment, such as work, school or family obligations.
Dual diagnosis or co-occurring IOP treatment groups are available at select locations. These programs utilize a comprehensive approach for treating substance use disorders that co-occur with other mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The goal of dual diagnosis treatment is to help clients with these co-occurring disorders learn how to manage both illnesses.
The cost of intensive outpatient treatment at High Focus Centers depends on a variety of factors, including the type of health insurance carried by the client (if applicable), length of treatment and services utilized. Contact us at (610) 644-6464 to verify insurance coverage.
Clients attend IOP four days per week for 2 hours and 15 minutes each day for a total of about nine hours per week.
